The Company

Makaira Oil & Gas is a Fort Worth, Texas based company focused on enabling operators to strengthen their development capabilities through strategic joint ventures in the onshore US oil and natural gas space.  Makaira team has experience in most of the petrolific basins in the US.  Our joint venture structures present low finding cost and compelling full cycle returns to operators.

Executive Team

Glenn A. Adams, Chief Executive Officer & Chairman

Mr. Adams is the CEO, Chairman of the Board and a founding member of Makaira Oil & Gas.  Mr. Adams has 35 years of experience in the independent oil and gas exploration and production sector. Held positions of increasing responsibility in land management at Cotton Petroleum, Texoma Production and Apache Corp. and at age 29, was appointed VP and Land Manager of Wolverine Exploration Company a publicly traded NASDAQ exploration and production company. At age 34, became CEO of the company and lead a successful corporate restructure. Co-founded and managed an energy exploration partnership for a major New York investment bank. The first PE-backed exploration entity of its era. Co-founded and served as CEO of Adexco Production Company, which was an early mover in the Barnett Shale, the first domestic resource play. During seven years Adexco went from a start-up to a significant player in the Barnett Shale and the Fayetteville shale. During this time period, Adexco executed five significant transactions and several smaller transactions, which included PE investments and significant Non-Op positions, with the result being that $187 million was invested and $492 million was received on exit. Does not include $50 million+ value for retained interests. The time cycle on these transactions ranged from 14 months to 40 months. Completed exit from natural gas by July 2008. Formed Texas Shale in late 2008 and rotated into liquids by early 2010. Formed EF Energy with a group of senior energy executives in 2010, with institutional PE backing. Company sold in the fall of 2014.


Gerald W. Haddock, Vice Chairman

Mr. Haddock is the Vice Chairman of the Board and a founding member of Makaira Oil & Gas.  Gerald Haddock currently serves as a board member of Ensco, PLC and Meritage Homes Corporation.  In addition, he manages private equity interests in Haddock Investments.  Mr. Haddock has extensive management and investment experience in energy related investments.  As an associate and later a partner of Fulbright & Jaworski, LLP in Houston, Texas, he has advised many energy related companies including Exxon, Shell Oil, The Mitchell Companies, Michael Halbouty, Coastal Corporation, Calcaiseu Refinery, Tierra Minerals, and, in fact, he left Fulbright & Jaworski, LLP in 1979 to pursue an energy career when he joined with a group of clients and facilitated the organizing transactions involving a simultaneous acquisition of an oil and gas drilling company, an exploration and production company, a refinery, and several service companies, thereby creating an integrated oil and gas company, and subsequently managed its initial IPO.  In this transaction, Mr. Haddock served as Executive Vice President of Consolidated Petroleum (AMEX and London), based in Midland, Texas.  While so serving, he developed new techniques for constituting drilling and E&P partnerships.  Subsequently, Mr. Haddock gained significant investment and financial management experience through working with Richard Rainwater (one of the country’s legendary investors) and the Bass Family of Fort Worth, Texas as a participating investor and advisor.  These experiences led Mr. Haddock to his service in many publicly held company directorships and officer positions, particularly serving as CEO of a major, publicly traded Rainwater related company. Mr. Haddock is the longest tenured Director (twenty-five +years) in Ensco, PLC, one of the world’s largest drilling companies. Mr. Haddock also serves as a director of Meritage Homes Corporation.  In addition to 35 years of experience in the energy business, Mr. Haddock has significant experience in analyzing businesses in cyclical industries which have opportunistic entry points, all of which has provided him with significant experience in analyzing the “tops and bottoms” of the energy sector.  Mr. Haddock is an attorney and counselor at law.  He received his J.D. from Baylor University Law School, he has a Master of Laws in Taxation from New York University School of Law, a Master of Business Administration from Dallas Baptist University, as well as his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Baylor University.  


Will B. Adams, SVP Acquisitions & Divestitures

Mr. Adams is the SVP Acquisitions and Divestitures and a founding member of Makaira Oil & Gas.  Will Adams recently served as in-house consulting landman and in charge of business development for EF Energy, LLC. Mr. Adams began his career in 2007 as a landman with The Mitchell Company, running title and leasing in the Barnett Shale. In mid 2009 he went to work for Texas Shale Gas Resources analyzing new prospects. In early 2010 the efforts of the Texas Shale team resulted in the formation of EF Energy LLC. Mr. Adams continued into this new entity handling fieldwork and in-house land management. He was an instrumental part of the business development department that reviewed over 2.5 million acres across the Eagle Ford Shale and the operating team that drilled 30 horizontal wells on over 25,000 acres.


Jerry L. Dees, Senior Geologic/Geophysics Advisor

Mr. Dees is the Senior Geologic/Geophysics Advisor to Makaira Oil & Gas.  Mr. Dees has a 50+year career in all phases of exploration and production in the domestic energy industry.  Mr. Dees has a deep technical background in geology and geophysics, culminating as Sr. VP in charge of all exploration for Arco and its upstream spin-off, Vastar Resources, along with a decade plus service on the board of directors of Plains Exploration & Production where he served as senior technical advisor to the management team of Plains, reviewing their resource play opportunities for many years. Following undergraduate and a subsequent masters degrees in geophysics, Mr. Dees spent most of his career in positions of increasing responsibility with Arco/Vastar, with deep experience in most petrolific basins in North America, including Alaska.  He also served as Manager of Geophysics for Edwin and Barry Cox for over 5 years and developed deep contacts in the domestic independent oil and gas space during that time. Upon retirement from Vastar in 1996, he immediately was nominated to the board of Plains Resources and ultimately Plains E & P. He was a director and Chairman of both the nominating and corporate governance committee and senior geologic/geophysical advisor from 1997-2013 which resulted in deep dives into every resource play in the US including Plains’ decision to develop a core position in the Eagle Ford Shale. Mr. Dees remained in this role until Plains was sold to Freeport McMoran. He is a director of Geotrace Technologies and provides geologic/geophysical consulting for a privately held E&P company headquartered in Texas.
